drawing by: Maria Slater, a. 11
It was for the eighth time that people in now 49 countries in Europe, Africa and Central Asia looked out for winged heralds of spring within the framework of a Spring Alive project.
Birds know no borders and this is why they can unite people who share the same interests but come from different countries on different continents. During the recently finished 8th season of Spring Alive over 54,000 children, over 900 teachers and supervisors, supported by over 500 volunteers, joined in to observe or to help observing and recording the first sightings of five bird species. Thank you all people of good will for being with us! In Africa, a drawing competition “How Can I Help Birds?”, meat to draw the attention of competitors to the very special role birds occupy in nature and in human life, was staged to encourage children to join the project. More than 300 drawings were submitted from South Africa, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Botswana and Nigeria. Results are due to come soon….
