KAS IR SABIEDRISKĀ ZINĀTNE?
Sabiedriskā zinātne ir izpēte, ko veic jebkurš cilvēks, kurš palīdz apkopot datus savā dzīvesvietā vai jebkurā citā vietā, kura zinātniekiem ir grūti sasniedzama. Apkopotos datus, piemēram, putnu novērojumus, tālāk jāsūta zinātniekiem, kuri tos izmanto pētījumos.

Novērojumi, ko veic putnu vērotāji brīvajā laikā, palīdz ornitologiem apzināt putnu sugas, to skaitu un izplatību, lai saprastu, kuras no tām ir apdraudētas.
